Abstract

Background. The destruction of soil cover in the territory of Krasnodar region remains one of the main causes of soil fertility loss, yield reduction and negative landscape changes. In connection with this, the development of methodologies for assessing soil erosion taking into account some physical and chemical properties is an urgent task.
Materials and methods. Geographic information technologies are an integral part of the contemporary studies and analysis of soil erosion processes. We used the soil map of Krasnodar region as a database for soil properties and factors mapping. This map includes the information on the soil types and sub-types, soil composition and rocks formation. The initial data are structured in geodatabase of ArcGIS software. The soil properties data mapping was carried out via the map algebra.
Results. The soils of Krasnodar region were merged into five classes on the basis of the extent of their erosion. The authors have proposed a method for evaluating the integral soil erosion risk indicator based on scores. The authors have created an erosion map of Krimsk district.
Conclusions. The aspect of soil erosion risk has been analyzed on the basis of the data collected in the territory of Krimsk district of Krasnodar region. It is established that 41,7 % of soils in the studied territory are medium erosional, 22,5 % are highly erosional.
